Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Energy Flair Helps Save Energy and Money at Home Individuals can showcase their energy savings on Facebook and Twitter
NOVEMBER 17, 2010 – Starting today, individuals looking to save money by lowering their monthly energy bills can learn how to use energy more efficiently at http://www.EnergyFlair.com. Energy Flair is a free service that teaches people how to conserve electricity and natural gas, tracks their household energy consumption over time and rewards them for reducing their use of electricity and natural gas with virtual pieces of Energy Flair – or digital buttons. Users can showcase and compare earned Energy Flair with online friends and family through Facebook and Twitter.
Energy Flair co-founder and product manager Rajesh Nerlikar explains, “We give people a way to share the results of their hard work to save energy and to encourage their friends and family to join in the effort. Reducing your energy bill isn’t as visible as driving a hybrid vehicle – no one can see that you are doing it.” Co-founder Mary Lemmer adds, “With Energy Flair, individuals are recognized for using energy more efficiently, saving money, and reducing their impact on the environment.”
Individuals can create an Energy Flair account for free in less than a minute at http://www.EnergyFlair.com. Users can then learn how to improve their home’s efficiency by browsing a list of energy saving tips, which can be filtered by category and the level of effort required to implement the tip. Users can also view graphs of their energy usage over time. As they reduce their monthly energy consumption compared to the previous year, they earn virtual pieces of Energy Flair. To verify reductions, users send in an electronic copy of their utility bill. Participants who achieve significant savings milestones, such as a monthly reduction of more than 5% or consecutive months of reductions, are awarded special pieces of Energy Flair for their accomplishments.
After earning a new piece of Energy Flair, users can choose to send out a Facebook status update or Twitter tweet, letting others know about their energy savings. Individuals can also see how their Energy Flair collection stacks up to others and win special Energy Flair for leading the pack with the most savings. “Energy Flair adds to the financial motivation for people to use energy more efficiently,” says Mary. “Users compete against themselves and others to reduce their impact on the environment.”
